Recently we asked some of our Loan Officers where their inspiration for being a Loan Officer came from. No matter what industry you’re in, everybody starts somewhere. Whether your passion for your job has been a lifelong dream or was born out of a unique experience you had, there’s typically a story behind the journey.
When you think about the real estate business, it’s pretty easy to have an idea or two of why many get into the industry. Looking at homes is fun! And helping someone get into their dream home, in whatever capacity that is, sounds invigorating to many. As a loan officer, you take someone on the journey to acquiring a home loan from start to finish of the homebuying journey. To some that may not sound like what they want to spend their time doing, but many have been in that vulnerable position and want to help ease the process for others.
I used to investigate mortgage fraud alongside the FBI so I spent a lot of time putting loan officers in jail and saw all of the wrong things to do to get someone a mortgage. I spoke with thousands of borrowers that lost their home due to a corrupt loan officer, it was heart wrenching. So I decided to switch to becoming a loan officer so I could help as many people as possible be educated on what they are getting into with a mortgage. I love to hold their hands, walk them through their goals and guide them into the right price point and loan product that achieves their goals so they wouldn’t hurt financially or lose their home. It’s been so rewarding, I love my job more than I would have ever imagined. I feel like God guided me right into this role and I couldn’t be happier that I trusted Him with this transition many years ago.
My journey started with my own homebuying experience. In 2013, my first mortgage left me frustrated with poor communication and a stressful process. In 2019, my wife and I bought our second home with Legacy Mutual Mortgage (Andy Pendleton), and the experience was night and day – smooth, clear, and supportive. When Andy asked me to join him in 2020 (I originally reached out to him to refinance my home), I saw an opportunity to help others have a positive experience. I believe homebuying should be fun and exciting!
My inspiration came from one of my proudest personal accomplishments—purchasing my first home at age 28. At the time, I was expecting my first child and wanted to create stability and comfort for my growing family. Having grown up in New York City, homeownership was something I never thought was possible; I had only known apartment living. That experience opened my eyes to the power of homeownership and, ultimately, led me to a career that allows me to help others experience that same transformation. What began as a personal journey turned into my greatest professional passion.
While each origin story of inspiration is different, the overarching goal is the same: to help individuals and families purchasing homes get the best loan for their situation and help to not only make the process smooth, but also exciting!
